After an initial consultation, we will inform you which method is most suited to your needs. This usually involves a home kit, where impressions are taken for fabrication of vacuum formed whitening trays – these are filled with the whitening gel and worn for a period of time. Modern whitening systems require only 1 hour of use per day and no longer necessitate being worn overnight. They also contain a de sensitising formulation for your comfort.
Typically, the trays will be worn for 10-14 days to achieve a great result.
Tooth whitening can also be done in the surgery. This involves the use of a stronger concentration of bleach which is painted onto the teeth and left for a period of time before being washed away. This process is then repeated 2-3 times.
Often, the way to achieve the desired result is a combination of both systems with initial home whitening followed by in surgery whitening.
We always advise the use of whitening trays for ongoing maintenance in order to top up levels when required. This means that all you require is further whitening gel when you run out, which we will be able to supply you with, leaving you whiter teeth for life!
